Fatehpur (UP): At least 10 persons were killed and 100 others were injured on Sunday when 13 bogies of Delhi-bound Kalka Mail from Howrah derailed near Malwa station here.
The accident took place on Sunday afternoon near East cabin of Malwa station, nearly 120 kms from state capital Lucknow.    



Ten persons have died in the accident, according to Chief Public Relations Officer, North Central Railways, Sandeep Thakur.
"13 bogies of the Delhi-Howrah train have derailed out of which 10 are in very bad shape. The exact cause of the derailment could not be ascertained yet as we are busy in rescue operations," North Central Railway General Manager HC Joshi said.

Additional Director General Railways A K Jain said that the number of injured could be high.
The accident took place on the afternoon of Sunday near East cabinof Malwa station, they said. “13 bogies of the Delhi-Howrah train have derailed in which 10 are in very bad shape. The exact cause of the derailment could not be ascertained yet as we are busy inrescue operations,” North Central Railway General Manager HCJoshi said.


Two rescue trains including one from Allahabad and Kanpur have rushed to the spot, where gas cutters and other
equipments are being used to pull out the trapped passengers.
Mukul Goel, IG National Disaster Relief Force, said, “Three teams of total 100 people are going to the accident spot. These teams are specialised in collapse structure rescue. We are waiting for the Indian Air Force plane.”

Meanwhile compensation has been announced by the railways , Rs 5 Lakh for those who have bene killed in the accident , one lakh for seriously  injured and Rs 25,000 for slightly injured.
According to Senior Development Operations Manager of North Central Railways Pradeep Ojha: “A number of people are still trapped in the 14 coaches that jumped the rails as the train was about to touch Malwa station around 12.20 p.m. today.”
“Relief measures are on in full swing and people are engaged in cutting the AC coaches with gas welding machines to bring out survivors.”
All the injured have been rushed to Fatehpur district hospital, about 17 km away from the accident site.
He said a high-level probe has been ordered into the incident. At the spot, locals with the help of railway and district administration authorities are trying to pull out those trapped inside the bogies.

At least 35 people were killed and over 200 injured when 15 bogies of a speeding Delhi-bound Kalka Mail derailed here today in the worst train accident this year.

The derailment took place at 12.20 PM when the packed train from Howrah reached near Malwa station, nearly 120 kms from Lucknow.

“15 bogies of the train derailed out of which 10 are in bad shape. The exact cause of the derailment is being ascertained. The Commissioner of Railway Safety has been directed to probe the incident,” said General Manager, North Central Railway H C Joshi aid.

He said the train was speeding at about 108 kmph when the accident occurred.

“It was almost moving at the speed of 108 kmph which is full speed,” said Joshi.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Fatehpur, KN Joshi said 35 of the passengers had died.

“About 200 injured are undergoing treatment here. Rescue workers have not been able to enter two of the bogies,” Superintendent of Police, Fatehpur, Ram Bharose said, adding the dead included women and children.
